Spring has definitely sprung! (Although there’s a frost warning tonight and later this week it will be in the 80s – that’s Maryland weather for you.) Reading has been a little slower so far this month, and I’m trying to be okay with that. Allowing myself to just let my reading life be instead of forcing it is something I’m constantly learning. Am I the only one?
Last weekend we had a great visit with my dad and this weekend was full of walks, errands, and taxes. On Wednesday, R. Eric Thomas will be in conversation with Nicole Chung about her new book, A Living Remedy, at my local indie, Greedy Reads and I can’t wait to see them both in person.
Speaking of my local indie, this week it was announced that I’ll be hosting a monthly romance book club with them! I am so excited and honored that they asked me to do this, so if you’re local, feel free to join in! My first pick is Happy Place by Emily Henry and we’ll be meeting Wednesday, May 17 at Bark Social to chat about it.
Reading
🎧 Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld (narrated by Kristen Sieh) – I’m about 50% through and enjoying it, although it’s definitely different for Sittenfeld. It’s been fun to get a fictional peek behind the scenes of a show like SNL, and Kristen Sieh’s narration is fantastic, as usual.
📖 Miracle Creek by Angie Kim – This has been on my shelf for literal years, and I’m excited to finally be picking it up. I haven’t had much time for print reading this week, but the few pages I have read got me hooked.
If you haven’t tried audiobooks or don’t have an audiobook subscription, Libro.fm is my favorite way to listen to audiobooks, and my favorite audiobook company to support. Your purchase supports an indie bookstore of your choosing, and you can pause or cancel at anytime. Use my code (KATHARINE) or this link and get TWO audiobook credits for the price of one.
Watching
Still rewatching “Nashville” and I might love it even more than the first go round. Except this time I’m swooning over Deacon Claybourne rather than Avery.
Mike and I also started season 4 of “Succession” and are trying to keep up with it so we can avoid spoilers. Greg and Tom will forever by my favorite duo.
Listening
I recently started listening to Everything is Fine, a podcast on life over 40. And while I’m not 40 yet (I will be next year), it’s been nice to listen to something about that stage of life. “Don’t F*ck Up Your Face” was a really good listen, especially if you’re interested in trying any cosmetic procedures. (I got a little Botox last year, and while I won’t say I’ll never do it again, it’s not something I plan on doing much of right now.) Aging as a woman in this society can be tough, and I’ve found that especially so as my face has changed in the last couple years. This podcast episode made me feel less alone.
Loving
LiquidIV – This stuff saves me on days where I feel dehydrated or just kind of meh. I’ve been filling a water bottle with ice, water, and a packet of this stuff and just drinking it throughout the day. My current favorite flavor is their new “seaberry.”
Making plans – As I ease out of my pandemic bubble, it’s felt so good to make plans and have things to look forward to. Being able to celebrate friends’ birthdays, visit with family, and live my life a little more has been huge.
Cortadillo (Mexican pink cake) – My friend made this pretty yellow cake with pink icing and generously shared some with me. It’s so pretty and perfect for spring, plus who doesn’t love cake?!
Have a great Sunday!

Ooh, I may get to see you at the Eric Thomas/Nicole Chung event next week--I have a lot going on that day, but I'm going to try to make it!
