This one’s gonna be a little shorter than usual. It felt like a quick week, and I did more reading than I have been (yay!) but had a too many headaches (not yay) so there was a lot of lying around. Hoping next week brings a little more energy!
Reading
🎧 Rootless by Krystle Zara Appiah – THIS BOOK. It took me some time to gather my thoughts because this one was incredible but the ending left me a bit torn. After talking with a couple people who have also read it (and getting to hear the author explain why they chose that ending!), I feel better about it. My full review will be in next week’s Month in Review (sending Tuesday, February 28).
📖 Sam by Allegra Goodman – I finished this on Saturday and it whew, wrecked me. And I read it in print! You can read my full review next week.
If you haven’t tried audiobooks or don’t have an audiobook subscription, Libro.fm is my favorite way to listen to audiobooks, and my favorite audiobook company to support. Your purchase supports an indie bookstore of your choosing, and you can pause or cancel at anytime. Use my code (KATHARINE) or this link and get TWO audiobook credits for the price of one.
Watching
“A Million Little Things” – I got caught up… and then learned the current season is the last. I’ve really come to love this show, and am sad there won’t be more! But I’m eager to see how they wrap it up.
“Vanderpump Rules” – It’s been a while since I watched this, and after needing something that didn’t require much of my attention, I decided to pick up where I left off (season 6). And it definitely is perfect when you want something to veg out to or have on in the background. The dramaaaaaaa.
Listening
I didn’t listen to much this week other than my audiobook, but I am looking for recommendations. “What A Day” used to be my favorite daily news podcast, but it’s changed its format up and doesn’t give as much of an overview.
Anyone have a news podcast rec that gives a brief overview of the biggest news topics of the day?
Loving
Brunch with friends – I grabbed brunch with two of my closest friends this weekend and it was much needed. This year of working on connecting with people has already been so good for my soul.
My ice hat – I’ve used my headache ice hat more than I’d like this week, but it’s been a lifesaver. I’m considering buying a second one so I always have one that’s ready to use.
A good reading month – As I’ve mentioned, the past few months of reading have been less than fulfilling but this month has been so. much. better. I’ve read six books so far (hoping to finish another one or two in the next two days), and three of them have been five stars. Hoping I can keep it up next month!
That’s it for this week! I hope you had a good one, and that the Sunday Scaries aren’t hitting too hard today.
A reminder for this week: The future will arrive when it is meant to arrive and you do not have to exhaust yourself in the present moment trying to figure out how you will get there. –Morgan Harper Nichols via @thestorytellerco

I like Up First from NPR. 12-14 minutes (faster if you don’t do 1x), pretty good overview
Mo News is a great daily news podcast without a slant, just the headlines- no bias. I’ve come to really enjoy it.
